Lemonade Day

E-mail Print PDF

When I first started the Mpls Mirror, I wrote about a project started by a Minneapolis police officer who had been setting up lemonade stands around different parts of North Minneapolis to reach out and connect to the neighborhood, and more importantly to the kids.  That officer was Mark Klukow.

Many of our readers may know Mark in part because of his participation in the successful Bike Cops for Kids Program that he and Officer Mike Kirchen help become a reality this past summer.

Officer Klukow has become a part of another program, adapted from the lemonade stand venture, that he would like involvement from the greater community. The event is Lemonade Day.  Mark describes it best:

Hello good people,

Lemonade Day is coming to Minneapolis/St Paul May 2nd, 2010.  We’re preparing and planning now and there’s a lot to do to get ready.  We need your help.

I’m on an advisory group tasked with getting as many people as possible to a one hour Lemonade Day informational rally on October 29th (7:30 AM, 11:30 AM or 5:30 PM).  Please view the attached invitation to an informational session about Lemonade Day 2010.  Lemonade Day is an entrepreneurial lesson for the child who commits to hold a Lemonade Stand on his/her block and it’s a day for the entire community to come together and tell kids they matter.  It’s been a great success in Houston because of the people who made the decision to get involved.

How can you help?  Come to an informational meeting on October 29th and see where your skill set matches up with the needs and volunteer opportunities available.  Spreading the word and recruiting kids are the 2 main goals.  If you could recruit just one child to host a lemonade stand you would be making a big difference.  Or, just show up thirsty on May 2nd, 2010 with a pocket full of quarters.  Our goal is to see 7500 young entrepreneurs selling lemonade that day.

All who are interested in becoming involved with or supporting Lemonade Day should R.S.V.P. for one of the three informational sessions on October 29th to:
