DFL Gubernatorial Candidates Forum

DFL Gubernatorial Candidates Forum

On Thursday evening, March 18th, North Community High School was the scene of the DFL Gubernatorial Candidates Forum hosted by Descendants of Africa.  The event was made possible with the support of the Student Councils of North Community and Patrick Henry High Schools.

The DFL candidates that participated were: State Rep. and Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson-Kelliher, former Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party U.S. Senator Mark Dayton, former 2006 candidate for the US Senate seat vacated by Dayton, Peter Idusogie, 23-year veteran State Senator, John Marty, 23-year veteran State Rep. Tom Rukavina, current Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, artist, writer, astrologer, mythologist and poet Ole Savior, Harvard and University of Chicago Law School graduate and House Health and Human Services Committee Chair, State Rep., Paul Thissen.

Minneapolis NAACP President, Booker Hodges, was the moderator of the event.

Anyone in attendance who was expecting to be bored listening for the umpteenth time to politicians giving stump speeches while also contemplating what else they could be doing, quickly got tuned in and paid attention.

The high school student’s participation in this forum was fantastic.  Not only were they great ambassadors to everyone in attendance, they seemed genuinely excited about the evening’s events.  They escorted each candidate to the stage and asked them well thought out questions to be addressed.

Many attendees probably arrived with a particular favourite in mind, the evening provided plenty to consider and digest, as there’s more than one good choice for the DFL slot on the ballot.

The only one missing from this forum was former House Minority Leader (2003-2006), Matt Entenza.

The video below is broken up into parts below.  If you’d like to listen to the sound as you do other things on the computer or around the house or office, minimize the video as several of the answers given by some of the candidates may surprise you.
