Hennepin County Commissioner Race District 2

E-mail Print PDF

Rolf Erickson of Plymouth is a Vietnam Veteran, a retired Meat Cutter and Butchers Union member, a former Hennepin County employee, and a professional tax appraiser currently contracted by five western Hennepin County municipalities. Rolf has pledged to cut his salary by 10%; Rolf made up his mind to run for county commissioner, because he knows first hand that the current Property Tax System is broken and needs major reform. Rolf has over thirty years experience as a Property Assessor, Rolf Erickson understands the importance of maintaining essential county service’s while at the same time holding the line on property tax increases in a bad housing market. Rolf told me that property taxes have risen while the average value of a home has decreased between 25-60%. That is why he is running on reforming property taxes RPT as he calls it.

Letter from CCHF's President

Will Government put you on a diet? This is no longer a silly question. New York City is planning to restrict the size of sodas and other sugary drinks sold in restaurants, movie theaters, delis, sports arenas and any other "food service establishment." If approved by the Board of Health, such drinks could not be sold in cups larger than 16 ounces.

Half of America is on the dole.  According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 49.1 percent of the American population lives in a household where at least one member is getting at least one government subsidy.  And many of these households likely receive more, including Social Security and Medicare.  This will only increase.  See graph below.

How are we as voters able to analyze and make choices on candidates running for elected offices when we know nothing about them or what they can bring to the table?

Does mainstream media give fair and balanced coverage allowing us the opportunity to make a formative decision?

In The Heart Of The Beast

In The Heart Of The Beast

In the Heart of the Beast Puppet Theater has been putting on May Parade and Celebration for over thirty years. This year In the Heart of Beast needs the people of Minneapolis to help this long time community organization put on this year’s May events. They need people that are willing to be in the parade and in the ceremony. Unlike other years this year they need your financial assistance. In the Heart of the Beast has to pay the Minneapolis Park Board for rental of Powderhorn Park which cost a lot of money. The real rub is that this year In the Heart of the Beast Puppet Theater has not received enough monetary contributions to be able to continue the May Traditional Events.

Listen to "Let's Talk Race" First Podcast. It gives a quick rundown of what is being reported on the events that occurred on Friday May 10th, 2013 that lead up to a suspect killed as two police officers were shot. I give my editorial on the situation as it is not new as to how some MPD handle the rounding up of a black suspect. Unfortunately, Friday's situation ended horribly exposing the process of what has stayed silent for so long.

Main Stream Media: Where Is The Follow Up/August 3rd, 2011

The mainstream media has much more manpower, and paid reporters then the Mpls Mirror.  I have many questions to reports done by the media and need some follow up answers. If mainstream media does not want to let residents of Minneapolis know what is going on then maybe our readers can help fill in the blanks.  Please share any info you may have.
